Ghastly accident on Lagos-Ibadan Express Way killed 9 people...Lord Have Mercy!!!



Nine people, on Saturday, along the Warewa Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State were burnt beyond recognition after fire engulfed a Lagos-bound commercial bus. Nine others sustained injuries.

The police reported that six passengers had lost their lives but the Federal Road Safety Corps reported that it was nine persons that perished.

According to the report, the yellow Mazda bus that was heading from the Ibafo area of Ogun State was filled to the brim when the accident occurred at about 4pm.

The accident caused traffic congestion for many hours because rescue officials cut off the affected portion of the road to clear out the vehicle.




The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Chidi Nkwonta, said the cause of the accident was yet to be known but investigations were still ongoing.

He added, “The accident was a lone crash. According to first-hand information, the bus was coming from Ibafo in Ogun State and heading to Ketu in Lagos when the accident occurred. Nine people were injured while nine were burnt beyond recognition.

“The injured persons have been rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre, Ojota. Investigations are ongoing.”

Six burnt corpses were taken to the Sagamu General Hospital Mortuary but as at that time family members of the deceased persons were yet to be notified.

“The corpses as well as items one could have used in identifying the corpses were burnt. So, we are stuck. People should feel free to walk into the mortuary and check for missing loved ones,” a police source intimated.
