Building Collapses Killing One In Ibadan .........

The building

A tipper  driver identified as Kabiru was trapped yesterday under the debris of a  2-storey building which collapsed at Ologuneru in Ido Local Government area of Ibadan city.
Divine providence, however, made dozens of others working at the uncompleted building site escape unhurt.
As at the time of filing this report, all rescue efforts made by officials of Oyo State Government, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and other agencies as the crane brought to the site could not lift the heavy debris up to rescue the man.
One of the survivors who preferred anonymity said there were many of them mixing granite and cement to deck the middle floor of the building.

According to them, before the collapse of the building, there was a deafening noise around 2pm which made all of them to run out of the building”.
”But, one of us was about coming out but the building had collapsed. We struggled to rescue him and others. The man under the debris is a tipper driver.
”He had supplied many loads of granite. He was told to transfer one of the heaps of granite to another place. When his boys were trying to reload the granite, he said he wanted to have a short nap having told his boys to wake  him after loading the sand.”
Heaps of mixed concrete, bags of cement, bags and shoes of the workers littered the place.
Due to the failure of some  security agencies to rescue the trapped man who many believed, must have died, the youths at the site became hostile.
Our photo journalist, Mr. Dare Fasube was lucky to have escaped being lynched by the irate mob.
The engineer supervising the project was said to have run away immediately the building collapsed.
Despite the incident, some of the survivors were still asking an elderly man how they would get their wages.
