A 37-year-old prophetess of the Celestial Church of Christ, Bose Oluwole, has been arrested by the police in Epe, Lagos for allegedly setting her 9-year-old daughter, Damilola Oluwole on fire in an attempt to rid her of witchcraft spirit.
The suspect was arrested following a distress call put out to the police by neighbours who saved the girl from being burnt to death.
The victim was rescued by the police and was rushed to Epe General Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment for first degree burns.
Oluwole who resides at Ijebu-Ode Road, Odomola, Epe, Lagos on interrogation claimed that God had revealed to her in a vision that her daughter was a witch and thus required a special deliverance to cast out the evil spirit.
She said, “I saw in my vision while praying that my daughter is from the witchcraft world.
“When I prayed to God over it, I received the instruction through Holy Spirit to burn my daughter’s body in order to deliver her from the evil society.”
After proper investigation by the police, the suspect was charged before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on a two-count charge of felony to wit, and attempt to commit murder.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against her and the presiding judge Mrs. C. J. Momodu, transferred the case to a family court because of its nature.
The magistrate in charge of the Family Court, Mrs. O. O. Oshin, ordered that the accused be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos till June 2, 2014 for mention.
