The newly crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, is to be arrested by the Nigerian Police on fraud-related charges from his tenure as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor. Sahara Reporters states that sources at the Presidency in Abuja disclose that a team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigerian police headquarters to place Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge.
Sanusi was meant to have been arrested at his private home on Sunday night after his appointment was announced, according to sources of the news agency. The ousted Apex Bank governor, has been staying at the Kano State governor’s lodge, receiving visitors and undertaking traditional rites.
It is also being alleged that a few northern leaders have warned President Jonathan to avoid “a reckless action so as to avoid setting fire to the already volatile situation in the city of Kano”.
The rift between the President and Sanusi Lamido Sanusi is believed to have begun, when he revealed that the President allegedly stole $20 billion from crude oil sales.
